About the Role
The Freedom of Information (FOI) Lead is a senior role within the Information Regulation team, responsible for managing complex FOI requests and providing expert advice and case management. The position works closely with stakeholders across the University and external parties to ensure compliance with legislation, promoting a compliance-by-design philosophy and contributing to continuous improvement in information governance.
Your responsibilities will include:
* Managing complex FOI requests in compliance with the Freedom of Information Act 1982 (Vic) and related legislation, ensuring timely and accurate responses.
* Providing expert advice on FOI legislation and University policies, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.
* Driving continuous improvement activities for FOI processes, tools, and service delivery.
* Collaborating with the Privacy & Data Protection Lead and senior staff to address risks, improve compliance, and enhance information governance across the University.
Who We Are Looking For
You will have advanced stakeholder engagement experience, with a proven track record of building relationships and using sound judgement to influence outcomes. You will also have excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present information effectively to diverse audiences. You will be able to work independently and collaboratively across teams, balancing multiple tasks and meeting strict deadlines in a fast-paced environment, while demonstrating a proactive, strategic, and adaptable approach.
You will also have:
* A postgraduate qualification and extensive experience, or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and education/training.
* Expert knowledge of domestic legislation and practices regarding FOI, with the ability to translate this into practical advice, tools, and programs.
* Proven expertise in interpreting and applying legislation in complex organisational contexts, providing guidance on new or complex situations.
* The ability to integrate internal and external regulatory requirements with the operational objectives of a large, diverse organisation.
Important Information
This role requires that the successful candidate must undergo and maintain an up-to-date Working with Children Check. This is essential to guarantee a secure environment for all individuals at the University. In the case the selected candidate doesn't have a valid Working with Children Check, they will be able to apply for the WWCC as part of the initial onboarding procedures.
