Research Fellow in Climate and Fluid Physics – ANUThe Research School of Earth Sciences is Australia’s leading academic program in Earth and Marine Science, and was 9th in the 2018 QS world rankings by discipline. Our research agenda covers all aspects of the Earth system, from climate change through to deep earth processes; from the distant past to future projections. We take pride in pursuing fundamental research questions, in our high-quality research, and in the impact of that research upon society. We seek applications from motivated and creative scientists for a new tenure-track position in Climate & Fluid Physics. You will have the opportunity to develop and lead a world-class research portfolio, and will contribute to research-led teaching and research training activities in Climate & Fluid Physics. We aim to attract candidates who can undertake novel research on the fluid dynamics of the climate system, including turbulence and circulation of the ocean and atmosphere.Position OverviewThe Climate & Fluid Physics group at the Research School of Earth Sciences conducts groundbreaking research into the dynamics and thermodynamics of the ocean, atmosphere, cryosphere, and land surface. Our current research profile includes the fluid mechanics of basal melting of the Antarctic ice sheet, the development of Australia’s next high-resolution global ocean-sea ice model (ACCESS-OM2), and thermodynamic approaches that integrate water cycle observations and modelling across land and ocean domains. Through this position, we are looking to strengthen our capacity in fundamental and applied fluid mechanics. This position will be for an initial period of seven years, with the option of renewal or conversion at the end of the appointment. The Australian National University provides attractive benefits and excellent support to maintain a healthy work/life balance and offers generous remuneration benefits, including four weeks paid vacation per year, assistance with relocation expenses, and 17% employer contribution to superannuation.
