NORTH-CEDAR COMMUNITY SCHOOL DISTRICT Activities Director in Clarence, IowaJob Description: School Activities Director Position Summary: The School Activities Director is responsible for developing, coordinating, and overseeing a comprehensive extracurricular and co-curricular activities program that promotes student participation, leadership, and a positive school culture.
This role focuses on fostering a welcoming and inclusive environment where all students feel encouraged to engage in activities that support their academic, social, and emotional growth.
Key Responsibilities: Develop and implement strategies to increase student involvement in clubs, sports, fine arts, and other extracurricular activities.Identify and address barriers to participation, ensuring opportunities are accessible to all students.Collaborate with staff, students, and families to create programs that reflect student interests and community values.Organize interest fairs, informational sessions, and recruitment campaigns to encourage involvement.Foster a Positive School Culture: Design and coordinate events that promote school spirit, inclusivity, and a sense of belonging (e.g., pep rallies, spirit weeks, assemblies, cultural celebrations).Develop recognition programs to celebrate student achievements in academics, athletics, arts, and leadership.Partner with school leadership to promote and reinforce positive behavior expectations and core values through activities and events.Oversee student government and leadership programs, providing mentorship and guidance to student leaders.Offer leadership workshops and training opportunities for students to develop essential life skills such as communication, teamwork, and decision-making.Encourage student voice and ownership by involving students in planning and decision-making processes related to school activities.Program Coordination and Management: Manage the logistics of all school-sponsored activities, including scheduling, budgeting, staffing, and facility use.Ensure compliance with district policies, safety regulations, and equity standards for all activities and events.Collaborate with community partners, booster clubs, and parent organizations to support school programs and initiatives.Evaluate the effectiveness of activities and programs, using data and feedback to inform improvements.Communication and Collaboration: Communicate effectively with students, parents, staff, and the community about available programs and upcoming events.Use multiple communication platforms to promote activities and celebrate successes.Build relationships with staff to integrate extracurricular activities into the broader educational experience.Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Education, Recreation, Student Services, or a related field.Previous experience in student activities, school leadership, or program coordination.Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, staff, and community members.Commitment to fostering an inclusive and positive school culture that supports diverse student needs.Knowledge of leadership development practices and experience mentoring student leaders.Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, as needed for events and activities.Preferred Skills and Attributes: Energetic and enthusiastic approach to student engagement.Creative mindset with the ability to design innovative programs and events.Strong problem-solving skills and a collaborative leadership style.Experience working with diverse student populations and promoting equity and inclusion.Reports To: Principal
