The Department of Education is responsible for delivering and regulating state-wide learning and development services to Victorians across the early childhood and school education sectors. The Department is also one of Victoria's biggest employers, with approximately 80,000 teaching staff and around 5000 public service employees.
The Legal Division provides highly valued legal services across the Department's portfolios which include early childhood and schools. In doing so, Legal Division provides direct, practical and strategic legal advice to over 1600 government schools supporting approximately over 650,000 Victorian Government school students.
About the role
An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Legal Division's Practice Support Unit and lead a team of support staff to provide valued legal co-ordination and administrative services.
The Practice Support Unit's (PSU) key role is to provide business management, administrative and financial services to support the Legal Division to deliver highly valued legal services across the Department's portfolios. Key functions include the triage and allocation of requests for legal advice, financial administration, information technology and knowledge management, human resources, business planning, budget management, risk and compliance monitoring and reporting.
Reporting directly to the Legal Operations Manager, the Team Leader will be responsible for supervising, supporting and coordinating the Legal Support Staff. The successful candidate will work closely with the Legal Operations Manager to induct, mentor, develop, coach and supervise the work of the Legal Support Staff and assist to build team members' capability.
The incumbent will proactively contribute to the smooth running of the PSU and drive continuous improvement to its processes, making a significant contribution to both the effectiveness of the Unit and its culture.
