Salary: £31,931 to £34,709 per annum (dependent on skills and experience).
A Specialist Allowance of up to 10% per annum is also available for this role, dependent on skills and experience.

We're excited to announce an opportunity for a Shipping Professional to join our dynamic Logistics and Transport Team. In this key role, you'll manage the day-to-day operations of the STFC's shipping function, ensuring seamless customs activities and efficient delivery processes.
As the Shipping Manager, you will play a crucial part in supporting project managers and scientists, providing technical expertise and guidance to enhance shipping efficiency. Your responsibilities will include overseeing all shipping services, ensuring that each shipment, whether domestic or overseas, complies with HMRC regulations and other critical documentation.
In this role, you'll be responsible for:
Line Management of the Shipping Team
Managing UK and international shipping, including compliance with customs regulations and Incoterms
Ensuring the safe transportation of Hazardous, Dangerous, and Radioactive Materials
Staying up to date with the latest legislation and best practices in shipping and logistics.

The post holder will:
Ensure that daily and weekly shipping activities, both domestic and overseas workflow is discharged efficiently and timely through delegation, organisation and allocation of tasks and workflow management, including but not limited to:
All courier functions carried out daily.
Despatch and registration of Dangerous goods and Radioactive Material
Ensuring that all databases are up to date for reporting on MI and financial data
Bulk shipping of crates, pallets and other equipment using suppliers
Customs clearance and goods in transit monitoring
Essential Shortlisting Criteria:
Level 3 (HNC / equivalent) qualifications, or other equivalent experience
Proven shipping and logistics experience
Experience and knowledge of working closely with selected couriers and agents, for both import and export processes.
Proven experience of Dangerous Goods handling and documentation
Experience of managing and motivating staff.
Ability to simplify complex customs/shipping requirements and communicate to customers, verbally and in writing (including Inward and Outward Processing).
Trouble shooting and problem-solving approach
High level of literacy and numeracy
Accessing and extracting data
Confident user of Microsoft Office (Excel, Access, Word, Outlook, SharePoint)
Relevant Health and Safety knowledge and awareness.
Special Requirements
Occasional working outside of normal office hours
Occasional travel to other sites and training venues.
