The Longreach region is situated 700km west of Rockhampton, and covers an area of 40,638 sq km. The region includes townships of Longreach, Ilfracombe, Isisford and Yaraka, with key industries being cattle and sheep production and tourism. Longreach is the administrative centre for the region and is home to the Australian Stockman's Hall of Fame, Qantas Outback Founders Museum and Longreach Powerhouse Museum. Reporting to the Director of Works, you will ensure professional technical support and assistance is provided over a variety of engineering tasks for the management of Council's water supply, sewerage and solid waste. Additionally, you will be implementing asset management programs through planning, project management, budgeting, direct supervision and coordination of services. With demonstrated experience leading a small but mighty operational and multidisciplinary team of specialists to deliver water operations and utilities management which support public health and growth through "integrated water cycle management" and the safe and equitable delivery of drinking water supply to residents and business in the region. Professionally you will have demonstrated experience as a practitioner in civil, environmental, hydraulic or related engineering field, and supervisory experience in the operation and management of town water supply and sewerage systems. High level of computer literacy, including experience using SCADA will be essential for success in this role. Tertiary qualifications in Engineering (Civil or Environmental) OR significant experience and competencies in water, sewer and solid waste is essential.
