About the Cathedral and Music Program Vision:St. Mary's Cathedral is the cathedral church of the Catholic Archdiocese of Perth. The Cathedral's Music Program has a rich heritage of music spanning over 150 years, enriching the liturgical and cultural life of the Cathedral and wider Perth Community. To ensure and strengthen the continuity of the Program's enduring success, St. Mary's Cathedral has defined a vision for its future Music Program which includes the following key objectives:

A music program that is frequently invited, performing and collaborating with other best in class music programs and institutions nationally and internationally.A music venue that is frequently sought out and booked by touring and local liturgical musicians to perform.A music program that is inclusive, nurtures and retains male and female choristers with a broad repertoire befitting their abilities.About the Position:Reporting to the Dean of the Cathedral, the primary objective of The Master of Music's role is to develop and foster relationships with key stakeholders and partners including primary, secondary, tertiary, performing arts and religious institutions to enhance the Music Program's profile.
The Master of Music is responsible for delivering a high quality Music Program at St Mary's Cathedral. The Master of Music will attract, select, educate, develop and retain the choristers in the Cathedral Music tradition.
Duties will include:Attract, select, educate, develop, retain and conduct ensembles of girl and boy choristers in the tradition of Cathedral Music in a safe and nurturing environment.Attract, select and supervise contracted music employees in the Cathedral.Direct the schedule and repertoire of the Cathedral Choir in alignment with the needs of the event and its key stakeholders.Liaise with key stakeholders to develop the Cathedral into a centre of musical excellence and enhance the music programs profile.Coordinate the program and schedule for visiting choirs performing at the Cathedral.Develop and implement fundraising strategies and initiatives for the Cathedral Choir Foundation.Develop and lead the music program for a Youth Mass which fosters attendance and participation. Develop and foster relationships with key stakeholders and partners including primary, secondary, tertiary, performing arts and religious institutions to enhance the Music Program's profile. Uphold the ethos of the Catholic Church in accordance with Catholic social teaching.Qualifications and Experience:Post-graduate tertiary qualification in music.Qualifications or experience in children's education.Experience working within a Catholic liturgical setting is highly desirable.Proficiency on the Organ is desirable.Skills, Abilities and Knowledge:Strong knowledge of choral skills, choral repertoire and choral rehearsal techniques.Strong knowledge of the Catholic Church's liturgical documents.Excellent communication skills; both written and oral.Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, Outlook, Publisher and Sibelius Music Notation Program.Ability to organize and prioritise. Strong interpersonal skills.Strong analytical skills and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
