THE SCOPE AND PURPOSE OF THE JOB
The Peer Mentor acts as a role model to their NDIS participants. The main objective for a Peer Mentor is to ensure their participants are working towards achieving their NDIS goals. These goals can be achieved through assisting participants to services, assisting with and/or supervising participants to engage in the community, as well as empowering and building participants’ capacity.
The NDIS is a major national reform with an insurance-based approach. It is a new way of providing support for eligible people with permanent and significant disabilities, their families, and carers, via individualized services based on a client’s level of need.
