Principal Recruitment Consultant -Defence Recruitment Location: Brisbane or Melbourne, Australia Division: Engineering & Defence Reports To: Business Manager Position Purpose: The Principal Consultant will be responsible for managing the Defence desk, focusing on recruitment for permanent and contract roles within the defence sector. This desk will target roles across engineering, maritime, vehicles, and broader defence infrastructure projects. The role will involve developing new business, managing client relationships, and ensuring the successful recruitment of talent aligned with the unique needs of the defence industry. Key Accountabilities: Business Development: Identify, pursue, and secure new business opportunities within the defence sector, including government and defence contractors. Develop strong relationships with key defence organisations and OEMs (Original Equipment Manufacturers) to provide tailored recruitment solutions. Conduct research to identify areas of growth within defence, particularly in emerging fields such as cybersecurity, vehicles, and maritime projects. Recruitment Delivery: Manage the entire recruitment lifecycle, from job briefings and candidate sourcing to placement and post-placement follow-up for both permanent and contract positions. Source, interview, and screen candidates across defence-specific roles, ensuring compliance with security clearances and industry standards. Maintain an active pipeline of talent to meet the demand for specialised roles in the defence industry. Client Relationship Management: Serve as the primary point of contact for clients within the defence sector, managing their recruitment needs and delivering tailored talent solutions. Ensure compliance with client requirements, particularly regarding security and safety protocols for defence personnel. Conduct regular client reviews to ensure satisfaction and to identify opportunities for further recruitment needs. Stakeholder Engagement: Work closely with internal teams, including marketing, business development, and operations, to align recruitment activities with client expectations and industry trends. Engage regularly with key stakeholders within the defence sector to stay informed about upcoming projects, recruitment needs, and changes within the industry. Market and Industry Expertise: Maintain a deep understanding of the defense industry, including major projects, government policies, and trends affecting the recruitment landscape. Provide expert advice to clients and candidates on market conditions, salary trends, and defense-specific requirements such as security clearances and technical certifications. Reporting and Compliance: Maintain accurate records of client and candidate interactions using the organization’s CRM system, ensuring all data is compliant with regulatory and industry requirements. Provide regular reports on desk performance, recruitment activities, and forecasts, ensuring alignment with the organisation's targets and objectives. Qualifications and Experience: Minimum 3-5 years of recruitment experience, preferably within the defense sector or related fields such as engineering, maritime, or vehicles. Experience in permanent and contract recruitment, with a strong understanding of the defense industry's unique challenges and compliance requirements. Proven ability to develop new business and build long-term relationships with defense clients and contractors. Experience managing security clearance processes and understanding the specific requirements for defense-related roles. Proficiency in recruitment CRM systems for managing client and candidate records. Work Conditions: Standard office hours, with occasional travel required for client site visits and meetings with key stakeholders in the defense industry. Hybrid work with remote work on Fridays. Flexible working arrangements may be available to accommodate the specific needs of the role. Salary: 90,000 – 120,000 base plus superannuation (11%) and commissions.
