Work Type: Permanent Full Time Location: Emerald, Central Highlands, Queensland 4720 Department: Communities Remuneration : Stream B, Level 5: $33.17 per hour + allowances + superannuation Central Highlands Regional Council is currently seeking an experienced Lead Horticulturalist to join our Parks and Gardens team in Emerald.
In this newly designed role you will utilise your horticultural expertise and leadership skills to contribute to the future vision planning and sustainability of the Emerald Botanic Gardens, assist in maintaining the Emerald Cemetery and all gardens and tree lines in Emerald.
The Emerald Botanic Gardens covers an area of 42 hectares.
Situated along the banks of the Nogoa River, the Botanic Gardens are loved by tourists and locals alike for the various walking tracks, playgrounds, picnic areas, mazes and over a dozen themed plant gardens native to the region.
In this exciting role, you will support the organisation by: Undertaking maintenance activities that include, but are not limited to, mowing open spaces and reserves, whipper snipping, tree trimming, revegetation, tree removal, chain sawing, wood chipping, garden bed maintenance, weeding, spraying, planting, nursery work, landscaping works, operation of small items of plant, litter control, and field maintenance.
Ensuring areas are weed-free, adequately watered, fertilised regularly, pruned, mulched, pest & disease free, mowed & edged to standard, safe and litter free, graffiti removed, and vandalism repaired.
Provide specialist advice on horticulture standards and practices.
Communicating with the Supervisor, on matters relating to works and maintenance programs to help create an effective work team environment.
Providing a high level of customer service when dealing with general enquiries and complaints from both internal and external customers.
Ensuring all projects are undertaken to specification and in accordance with correct work methods and council procedures, work health and safety, environmental, risk and quality requirements.
Contributing to the future sustainability of the Botanic Gardens by assisting with design, and plant propagation utilising specific horticultural knowledge on projects relevant to the Botanic Gardens.
To be considered for this opportunity, you will need to possess: Minimum of a Certificate III Horticulture.
General Construction Induction Card.
Minimum of Queensland C class provisional driver's licence (manual).
Strong demonstrated leadership skills in leading teams in a horticulture environment.
Minimum of three years working in a horticulture environment.
Demonstrated experience in the use and maintenance of small plant equipment.
