The Genomic Medicine Lab (led by A/Prof Owen Siggs) is a dynamic team with expertise in clinical medicine, genomics, and computational biology. The foundation of all of our research is genomics, which we use to better understand, predict, diagnose, treat, and prevent disease. We have key expertise in diseases of inflammation, ageing, and blindness, where we perform high-quality genomic research to enable clinical impact. We are part of the Garvan Genomics and Inherited Disease Program, the Centre for Population Genomics, and are supported by generous and long-term funding from Snow Medical.
THE OPPORTUNITY
The Lab Manager will work closely with colleagues in the Genomic Medicine Lab, Genomics and Inherited Disease Program, Garvan Professional staff, and key external stakeholders to support our day-to-day operations and strategic activities. This role will support and report directly to Associate Professor Owen Siggs (Head, Genomic Medicine Laboratory; Co-Director, Genomics and Inherited Disease Program).
Salary: $97k + 11% super + salary packaging (depending on experience)
Employment Type: 2 year term contract with possibility to extend

WHAT YOU WILL DO
* Manage Lab operations, workflows, and resources (including clinical and genomic samples and data).
* Maintain compliance with relevant institutional, ethics, and grant reporting requirements.
* Support the financial management of the Lab by working closely with the Garvan Finance team to track spending, perform budget forecasting, and generate reports.
* Develop and amend submissions to Human Research Ethics Committees.
* Support the production of scientific manuscripts and presentations, and funding applications to government, philanthropic, and industry bodies.
* Support participant recruitment and consent, and the collection, processing, tracking, and storage of clinical samples.
* Coordinate submission of clinical samples to the Garvan Sequencing Platform and other service providers, and support the secure transfer, storage, and exchange of datasets.
* Provide support with the onboarding and supervision of junior staff and students.
* Continuously surveying Lab operations to identify areas of inefficiency or risk, and work with the Lab Head to address these issues.
ABOUT YOU
* Bachelor’s degree or higher with at least two years of lab or project management experience.
* Exceptional time management and organisational skills, with evidence of an ability to manage a complex and dynamic workload.
* Excellent attention to detail.
* A demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects on time and on budget, with a high degree of independence.
* Excellent interpersonal skills, with an ability to work effectively with a diverse range of individuals including researchers, professional staff, clinicians, and patients.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including experience leading the production of high-quality funding applications, manuscripts, Human Research Ethics applications, and oral presentations.
* A demonstrated commitment to continuous quality improvement.
* A strong command of online collaborative tools (e.g. Airtable, Slack, Google Workspace).
* Highly collaborative, and able to build and maintain relationships within and between teams.
