The ideal candidate will have strong news judgement and a passion for telling impactful stories that captivate diverse audiences.
Candidates with experience covering a wide range of topics, including lifestyle, crime, and politics, will be well-suited for this role.
Key Responsibilities:
* Cover breaking news events and write clean, concise copy while meeting tight deadlines.
* Pitch exclusive story ideas regularly and maintain a strong network of contacts.
* Edit and curate the SkyNews.com.au homepage with the latest and best-performing written articles.
* Utilize WordPress CMS to craft stories, assign them to relevant sections, and collaborate with social media teams.
* Understand the importance of immediacy in digital and television news environments and leverage broadcast content for digital assets.
* Identify newsworthy opinion and interview content from television channels and ensure timely delivery to online audiences.
* Determine which content performs well on various platforms and target content tailored to each platform's strengths.
* Work effectively in a fast-paced team environment, collaborating with Digital Video teams and on-air personnel to produce high-quality, exclusive content quickly.
* Maintain maturity and professionalism, working with minimal supervision while meeting strict publishing targets.
* The Sky News newsroom operates 24/7, requiring flexible hours, including irregular schedules and weekend work.
Requirements:
* A minimum of two years' experience in a busy newsroom, preferably.
* Ability to navigate complex political discussions.
* A positive attitude and enthusiasm for sharing ideas and learning new skills.
* Capacity to work independently, under pressure, and to tight deadlines.
* Excellent time management and organizational skills.
* Previous experience in a fast-paced newsroom environment is beneficial but not necessary.
