About the company
A successful and award winning privately owned consumer goods manufacturing business with multiple sites around Melbourne, who have relationships with large business customers and the major retailers. Though they are well-established, they have grown significantly over the last five years particularly, which has created substantial opportunities for people to expand their roles, and in turn has created the demand for new positions in the structure such as this one.
About the role
The Technical Operations Lead is responsible for translating business strategy to operations and is fundamentally a mix of process/industrial engineering and production supervision - it leads a small group of production team leaders in a 24/7 plant with multiple shifts, and ensures that interactions between operators and machinery are as safe and efficienct as possible while maximising quality using your engineering background and CI tools such as lean. The role is on a development pathway towards an Operations Manager role as a succession plan, so we're looking for someone who has the aspiration to run manufacturing operations in future.
About you
You're an engineer in the manufacturing sector who has aspirations to run operations, you have a solid grasp of continuous improvement tools and frameworks such as lean:
1. Engineering degree (process/chemical or mechanical)
2. Experience in production focused engineering roles (process engineer, industrial/production/manufacturing engineer)
3. Experience utilising lean tools (or similar) to improve manufacturing efficiency
4. Continuous manufacturing process experience (such as FMCG, packaging, pulp and paper, chemical)
5. Supervisory experience would be an advantage (but not a pre-requisite)
Why apply?
This is an excellent opportunity for an aspirational manufacturing engineer to gain a genuine development plan towards operations leadership, to apply your engineering skills while developing leadership capability with support from established leaders. This role is a rare one in that it gives you a staged path towards people leadership rather than being dropped in the deep end. More broadly, the business is a great size which balances the opportunities and investment of a larger company, with the culture and breadth of responsibility that comes with a smaller one.
