Location: RMIT Melbourne City Campus, Australia About the Project: The CultureAlign project aims to pioneer new methods for developing globally inclusive large language models (LLMs). The objective is to enable LLMs to generate culturally appropriate and personalized content tailored to diverse demographics. This research will involve creating extensive multilingual datasets with culturally sensitive scenarios and advancing methods to detect and mitigate potential violations of global social norms or legal rules in LLM outputs. Research Areas: Natural Language Processing (NLP) Computational Social Sciences AI Ethics and AI Safety Scholarship Details: Stipend: AUD $35,886 per annum (indexed annually) Duration: 3.5 years (full-time) Minimum Requirements: Honours Bachelor's degree (H1 level) with a High Distinction (HD) average, including a research thesis accounting for at least 25% of the final year. Master’s degree with a High Distinction (HD) average, including a research thesis component equivalent to at least 25% of a full-time academic year. International applicants must meet the minimum English proficiency standards: IELTS Academic score of 6.5 overall with no band below 6.0. No exceptions. Preferred Qualifications: Demonstrated research experience through publications in reputable conferences (e.g., ACL, EMNLP, NAACL, AAAI, IJCAI). Strong interest or background in NLP, AI ethics, computational social sciences, or related fields.
