Job Description The Psychiatrist Lead will provide clinical leadership, strategic oversight and expert guidance in the delivery of mental health services for immigration detention. Reporting directly to the Medical Advisor you will be responsible for providing clinical and professional leadership for HSA mental health professionals, overseeing clinical quality, and ensuring compliance with relevant policies and regulatory standards. This position will work closely with executive and clinical teams, playing a pivotal role in developing mental health programs, driving improvements in the quality of mental health services and improving patient outcomes. Key Responsibilities Oversee the clinical governance and operations of mental health services, across the immigration detention network. Develop, and maintain relationships with key external stakeholders including government departments, healthcare ogranisations and regulatory bodies. Regular attendance at national and site CCRC meetings. Provide advice regarding Fitness to Travel. Provide clinical expertise to HSA staff for complex mental health cases. Contribute to the development and implementation of clinical policies and procedures for the HSA mental health service. Engage in continuous quality improvement projects regarding HSA mental health services. Escalate relevant items to the clinical governance meeting. Participate and assist in the development of training, education and professional development programs for staff. Provide clinical support as required at sites. To be familiar with and develop positive and professional relationships with Department of Home Affairs and Australian Border Force staff in relation to immigration detention matters. Assist in the recruitment of mental health professionals, including providing advice of suitability and interviewing of candidates. Ensuring each site is suitably resourced to deliver services safely, competently and in line with the contracted scope of work. Any gaps in services are escalated and addressed as a priority.
