The Principal Metallurgist role is crucial in delivering a leading edge and best practice process technology capability to deliver essential projects to the broader Whyalla transformation. Reporting to the Senior Manager Growth Studies and Projects you will be responsible for the identification, development, management, and execution of the major growth studies portfolio.
Responsibilities will include:
1. Develop and mange the portfolio of MEP Projects to deliver the project study objectives including process definition, support infrastructure and utilities
2. Provide technical recommendations to the business regarding major technology selections
3. Support the MEP Whyalla Business Transformation by being engaged and involved with the investment process
4. Ensure the team and function’s are compliant with the relevant legislative, regulatory and company requirements
5. Support and develop an active Project Register maintained by Project Services
6. Effective engagement, management and coordination of all key stakeholders as well as supporting other SIMEC groups as required
7. Identify and develop major growth opportunities covering aspects of the value chain downstream of the Magnetite Coordinator, specially focused but not limited to the Pellet Plant and Direct Reduction facilities
We are looking for a highly motivated. commercially savvy, value focused individual to join our high performing and collaborative team.
You will also have the following:
8. Tertiary qualification in either Mineral Processing, Chemical Engineering. Metallurgical Engineering or related experience
9. Minimum years practical experience in pyrometallurgical operations
10. Strong safety awareness and drive a positive safety culture
11. Strong level of computer literacy
12. Excellent verbal and communication skill across multiple stakeholders
13. Strong verbal and communications skills
14. Strong analytical skills to evaluate large and complex sets of data and draw valid conclusions
15. Sound understanding of the mining value levers and demonstrated success in process optimisation to deliver value
