It has 29 inpatient beds and offers emergency medicine; surgery (orthopaedics, gastroenterology, gynaecology, general surgery and obstetrics); inpatient services including close observation, maternity, surgical and medical beds; renal dialysis; pathology collection; pharmacy; and medical imaging (x-ray, CT and ultrasound).What you'll be doingThe Head of Department is responsible for providing the clinical leadership, vision, strategy and direction for the department, to support the overarching District vision, strategy and priorities in the provision of safe and effective clinical care for patients within their clinical unit. Clinical leadership from the Head of Department should lead to optimal patient outcomes through Collaboration, Openness, Respect and Empowerment with internal and external stakeholders, including patients and families.The Head of Department will provide professional leadership and support training to clinicians across multiple disciplines within their unit and in collaboration with others outside of their unit to achieve safe clinical practice and quality education for staff.These roles apply in addition to and in conjunction with the purpose, requirements and key accountabilities outlined in the position description.The Head of Department is expected to support work in the areas of human resource management, clinical governance and service improvement in their specialised area. The Head of Department is responsible for setting up, monitoring, and maintaining the frameworks that deliver outcomes, but some of the work may be delegated as appropriate to other senior staff within the unit. The Head of Department remains responsible for the performance, output and outcomes of the workstreams delegated to others.Selection CriteriaEvidence of specialist registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) and Fellowship of the relevant medical college.Demonstrate a history of clinical excellence, evidence of commitment to clinical leadership and evidence of achievements and effective outcomes in clinical leadership.Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team and provide leadership of a team.Demonstrated effective clinical communication through the use of information technology and written, verbal and interpersonal skills.Demonstrated commitment to teaching, continuing education, research and quality improvement and demonstrated understanding of and commitment to all aspects of clinical governance.Demonstrated ability to consistently display a commitment to, and compliance with, and leadership in high quality Customer Service, Workplace Diversity, Occupational Health & Safety and Industrial Democracy principles, practices and relevant legislation relating to these areas.Demonstrated high levels of professionalism, with consistent display of and commitment to the organisation's CORE values.Demonstrated commitment to participation in on-call rosters and providing timely on-site responses.Occupational Assessment, Screening and Vaccination against Specific DiseasesThis is a Category ‘A’ position, please read and understand NSW Health policy directive PD2024_015.
