We are seeking a hardworking and dedicated Senior Wildlife Officer to join our team on a full-time basis.The primary responsibility of this role is to provide the highest standard of animal care for a selection of our captive bird and mammal collection while maintaining their enclosures and exhibits. Some of the responsibilities include:Feeding, cleaning, breeding, record keeping, and treatmentsPreparation of procedures and reportsConducting risk assessments and general safety managementGuest interaction, including assisting with wildlife talks, presentations, and management of feedbackLiaising with external partners and affiliationsSupport management in the leadership of the Wildlife teamAssisting with public relations and marketing promotional activitiesThis is a physically demanding role that involves animal husbandry tasks and manual handling, therefore the ability to perform physically demanding work is essential. Sound written and verbal communication skills are necessary as interaction with a diverse range of people from differing cultures is involved, and report writing and record keeping are requirements of the role.The ideal candidate will have a thorough knowledge and extensive experience working with Australian native fauna, specifically birds and mammals, along with the ability to share this knowledge and train, mentor, and develop fellow team members. Animal husbandry qualifications or progressive study towards a Certificate in Wildlife and Exhibited Animals are preferred. Leadership experience is desirable.Flexibility with working hours across a 7-day roster is essential, as weekend work will be involved.
