Document Examiners (APS6): As a Document Examiner, you will be responsible for conducting forensic casework and quality assurance, laboratory instrument and specimen reference library maintenance, and provision of technical advice on handwriting, signatures, printing, and security document features for the Australian Passport Office (APO).?
Facial Examiners (APS6): As a Facial Examiner, you will be responsible for conducting forensic casework and quality assurance on controlled and uncontrolled facial imagery in support of passport issuance and operations.
Utilising the departments Facial Recognition System you will assist in the resolution of identity through facial imagery and provide technical advice on the eligibility of applicant photos.?
The initial vacancies to be filled from this process are based in Canberra.
This process may be used to fill roles in other locations in Australia and overseas.
Our Ideal Candidates We're looking for high-performing people with skills and experience relevant to the department's Passport Fraud and Integrity Section.
Our ideal candidates will be tertiary qualified (in related forensic science/biometrics) and have contemporary experience and expertise in forensic examination methods including:?
Document examination including handwriting/signatures, a detailed knowledge of associated standards and best practices across the discipline, an awareness of biases and bias mitigation practices in forensic casework and reporting, and an ability to effectively advise on document security features.??
Facial comparison competency in both controlled and uncontrolled imagery at an examiner level4.
Knowledge and experience in working with facial recognition systems to resolve identity.
You will be experienced in supporting and mentoring facial reviewers, as well as delivering training to APO staff in facial comparison and image quality assessment.?
You will provide forensic services to support investigations related to passport fraud using a range of document examination tools, including scientific instrumentation such as stereomicroscopes, scanners, chip readers, video spectral comparator, databases and IT tools as well as Adobe Photoshop.??
You will analyse and assess document, handwriting and/or facial image evidence, produce related evidentiary reports and charts, and provide evidence in court as required.
