We have an opportunity for a Carbon Manager to join our Sustainability team. The position will ideally be based in Melbourne, but we will consider Sydney or Brisbane based for the right candidate.
The Opportunity - About the Role
This is a pivotal role in our environmental sustainability team that will appeal to a driven and influential manager with strong expertise in emissions accounting, stakeholder engagement, collaboration, and data analysis. You will be part of a broader team supporting the implementation of our Decarbonisation and Circularity strategies.
Reporting to the Group Environmental Sustainability Manager, you will be responsible for providing carbon accounting expertise to support internal and external reporting. You will also be responsible for monitoring the environmental sustainability landscape to ensure we are aligned with best practice. Through the authentic facilitation of strong relationships, you will enable and drive business outcomes for climate action that have lasting positive impact within the communities in which Stockland operates.
Key Responsibilities Will Include
1. Support Decarbonisation and Circularity strategy implementation
2. Work with internal stakeholders to ensure the Stockland upfront carbon process is being followed, and that upfront carbon emissions are assessed in line with Stockland’s methodology and GHG Protocol guidance.
3. Support the Group Environmental Sustainability Manager in the development of collateral (including guidance documents, templates and case studies) that will provide clarity on our strategy and uplift capability across the business.
4. Engage with internal stakeholders (development teams, project management teams, asset managers, national operations) to understand progress, implementation challenges, and innovative solutions.
Reporting
1. Support periodic internal and external reporting efforts on decarbonisation and circularity metrics.
2. Prepare an annual basis of preparation documenting the methodology, data sources and assumptions underlying our scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions inventory.
3. Support the Group Environmental Sustainability Manager prepare papers on decarbonisation and circularity for leadership.
Monitor environmental sustainability landscape
1. Support the Group Environmental Sustainability Manager in drafting updates to the business on policy and regulatory developments relating to environmental sustainability.
2. Conduct reviews of initiatives and sustainability performance benchmarking of peer group organisations to guide a best practice approach at Stockland.
3. Support the Group Environmental Sustainability Manager in compiling responses to industry consultation on carbon accounting and circular economy.
About You
1. Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Environmental Science, or equivalent
2. Demonstrated experience in emissions accounting, including the application of the GHG Protocol, and the National Greenhouse and Energy Reporting Scheme (NGERs), preferably within the property sector.
3. Demonstrated experience in data management and analytics.
4. Experience in stakeholder engagement to canvas input and/or buy-in to deliver on sustainability targets.
5. Experience in effective management of external service providers.
6. Awareness of emerging environmental sustainability standards and disclosure requirements.
7. Experience embedding circularity principles in a corporate setting desirable.
8. Self-organised with strong planning and change/project management skills, and able to handle multiple, time-sensitive projects, to deliver in the context of competing priorities.
