Position Information Hay War Memorial High School is a comprehensive co-educational rural school situated on the land of the Wiradjuri and Nari Nari peoples who are the traditional custodians. The school has an enrolment of 160 students which includes 20% of Aboriginal descent. The school was established in 1923 as a co-educational comprehensive high school and war memorial. The school is the only war memorial high school in the Commonwealth of Nations. The school has a unique background, close community ties and an ability to provide a personal educational experience for the students. The school's staffing in 2024 is 20 teaching staff and 13 non-teaching staff, including a Student Support Officer, School Counsellor, and Student Learning Support Officers. The majority of the school's equity funding is used to support initiatives developed in the 2021-2025 Strategic Improvement Plan. We are a collaborative school with both early career and experienced staff, regularly engaging in contemporary and strategic professional learning to refine and reflect on practice. The school prioritises staff development in Explicit Teaching, High Potential and Gifted Education (HPGE), and Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) programs in order to improve student attendance and engagement. These programs will further develop the effective teacher practices that research shows will lead to enhanced learning outcomes for students. The school is committed to continually improving effective teacher practices through evidence-based staff professional learning. This learning will ensure that both literacy and numeracy levels can be enhanced through improved data collection, analysis and use that underpins our practice in individualised and differentiated learning. Modern Industrial Technology/Building & Construction workshop and classroom facilities are available, including timber and metal workspaces, a laser cutter and 3D printers. Selection Criteria Approval to teach Design and Technology, Technology (7-8), Industrial Technology Timber and Metal. Demonstrated ability to differentiate the curriculum to cater for students with a diverse range of learning needs and backgrounds, by utilising highly effective evidence-based teaching practices. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and establish positive, respectful, collaborative relationships with students, school staff, parents, carers and community members. Understanding of the cultural and educational needs of Aboriginal students and a commitment to improving their educational outcomes. Conditions An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement.
