This is a 12-month maternity leave cover role based in Sydney.
Are you a seasoned journalist with a passion for breaking news and delivering compelling stories? 10 News First is looking for an experienced Reporter to join our Sydney newsroom on a maternity leave contract.
In this role, you'll be at the forefront of news coverage - investigating, producing, and delivering high-quality stories that matter. Reporting to the Executive Editor, you'll thrive in a fast-paced environment, working both independently and collaboratively to create impactful television news content.
Functions will include:
* Pitch, research, and produce original, high-quality news stories for broadcast.
* Work under tight deadlines to deliver clear, accurate, and engaging TV news content.
* Report live with confidence on breaking news events.
* Take the lead on complex news stories, from concept to broadcast, with minimal supervision.
* Proactively source and line up stories, ensuring comprehensive and dynamic coverage.
* Cover other newsroom roles as required.
What are we looking for in a Reporter? What's important?
* Strong news judgment and a deep understanding of the TV news landscape.
* Exceptional communication skills - both on-air and behind the scenes.
* Ability to work under pressure and make quick, accurate editorial decisions.
* Proven track record in television news reporting.
* In-depth knowledge of local, national, and international current affairs.
* Proficiency in non-linear editing systems, with experience in TV news production.
* Flexibility to work across different shifts, including weekends, to meet newsroom demands.
* Strong grasp of media law and its application in news reporting.
