Mathematical modelling to underpin and drive novel inertial microfluidic technologies.
This research position will provide key mathematical modelling for the ARC Discovery Project “Mathematics to underpin and drive novel inertial migration technologies”.
The successful applicant will join a thriving international team developing mathematical models to give theoretical understanding of the fundamental physics of inertial migration to drive development of novel devices for biomedical and industrial applications. The work will provide valuable understanding of inertial migration for both living and non-living particles in 3-dimensional flows of practical relevance.
The successful applicant will be based at the University of Adelaide, the home University of the project leader Prof Yvonne Stokes. The work will also require collaboration with the co-investigators Dr Brendan Harding, Victoria University of Wellington (NZ), Dr Rahil Valani, University of Oxford (UK), and Prof Darren Crowdy, Imperial College London (UK).
To be successful you will need:
A PhD in Applied Mathematics or a related discipline of science or engineering.
Demonstrated ability to undertake high quality research in mathematical modelling employing differential equations.
A record of scientific research achievements commensurate with career stage, including publications in international peer-reviewed journals of high quality.
Demonstrated experience in numerical solution of differential equations, including the development of computer programs.
Strong interpersonal communication and organisational skills to enable effective working both as an independent researcher and as a member of a diverse international research team.
