The Duties: The primary role of the position will be to learn and develop diesel fitting trade skills and to use those skills to provide quality support to the workshop team in servicing and maintaining the Council's machinery and equipment. Specific duties will include: Participate in theoretical training and complete a Cert III in Engineering – Fixed & Mobile Plant Mechanic (Diesel Fitter/Mechanic). Acquire practical on-the-job experience relevant to the trade. Assist and work with the Council workshop's qualified trade staff. Maintain work areas to ensure a safe, clean, tidy and efficient workplace. Ensure workshop equipment and tools are maintained in good condition. Maintain efficient timekeeping, work organisation and quality control to ensure effective service to Council's internal and external customers. The Requirements: The successful applicant will be able to demonstrate the following in the workplace: Minimum successful completion of year 10. A commitment to learn and complete formal trade qualifications. A mechanical aptitude. The ability to safely perform the physical demands of the role. Sound comprehension, numeracy and communication skills. The ability to follow directions and work with minimal supervision as required. Proven team player qualities. General Safety Induction for Construction Worker Certification (White Card) or the ability to quickly acquire. A minimum current "C" class driver or learner licence (manual preferred).
