Job description: About the Role Copper South Australia has set significant aspirational targets to increase production in the province through a series of project investments in facilities such as the smelter, refinery Olympic Dam underground mine, concentrating facilities and the highly prospective Oak Dam greenfield mine. As a Lead, Projects Commercial (Major Projects), you will work collaboratively with Commercial teams, Major Project Teams, Project Controls and other Functions to successfully deliver major projects in the Copper South Australia Major Projects portfolio. The successful candidate will demonstrate Charter Values through their leadership and will lead and develop a diverse team of contract professionals to deliver the contracting strategy and world class end to end contract management for the project. Core Responsibilities Leadership and management of a commercial team (5-6 FTE); Project contracting strategy and plan implementation, leading development and establishment of new contracts for the delivery of construction, services, equipment and materials etc; Leading contract management and administration for all construction services and activities at site; Management of the indigenous contracting program. In This Role You Will Ensure conformance with the BHP Charter, the BHP Standards (Our Requirements and Business Critical Documents), Code of Conduct and relevant statutory obligations; Lead an overriding commitment to health, safety, environment responsibility and sustainable development; Provide leadership, direction, functional expertise, mentoring, coaching and guidance to the Major Projects Commercial team whilst fostering a positive team culture and recognizing the importance of people's wellbeing; Identify, build and develop talent and capability in Projects Commercial team; Foster a partnership culture with contractors to ensure best for business outcomes in a challenging environment. Accountabilities Manage project contracts and procurement activities. Some site travel as and when required. Manage Contractor and contract performance, monitoring and reporting to support the Projects Community. Drive BHP commitment to Social Value. Establish and lead relationships with key stakeholders to become a highly valued contract expert. Provide leadership that will ensure consistent & high performance. Manage Supplier Relationship Management while working collaboratively with projects and cross functional stakeholders. Lead the pursuit of projects, operational and commercial excellence through continuous improvement. Apply sound commercial judgement around application of contractual terms and conditions. Lead the implementation of appropriate systems, and processes based on project risk and complexity. Ensure the integrity and maintenance of contracts in SAP/contract management systems (e.g. GCMS, Pro Con) and other contract management systems as required. Take responsibility for and provide leadership on claims prevention, assessment and resolution by applying expert knowledge and advice. Actively participate and drive BHP Operating Model (BOS) implementation within the team. Participate in improvement initiatives. Drive Commercial team performance against the Business Plan and relevant KPI's. About You To be successful in this role you will be a dedicated and passionate commercial leader with proven experience leading teams on major multi-billion dollar capital projects. Start-to-Finish leadership experience on a major multi-billion dollar capital project, experience in both project and operating environments is a plus. Qualifications and Experience Tertiary qualifications in Project Management, Business, Economics, Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, Legal (Construction Law) or related discipline; Previous leadership and influencing roles across complex stakeholder environments; Extensive experience in the execution of various contracting strategies and compensation models for EPC, EPCM, BOO(T) and Owner led execution delivery models on multi-billion dollar capital projects / programs is required; End-to-end commercial delivery cycle experience in support of the delivery of various Greenfields and Brownfields scopes, specifically scopes with a heavy facilities engineering and management component is required; Demonstrated experience in motivating teams in the pursuit of a high-performance culture to ensure safe, effective and efficient support to the development and delivery of project portfolio is a must. As People Leader you should be able to demonstrate Building and developing high performing teams and talent; Understanding of both study development and project delivery in the resources sector; Developed understanding of the contract life cycle from strategy identification and development to execution, close out and handover to commissioning; Exhibit strong problem-solving capability, negotiation skills, influencing and relationship management with a passion for mentoring and coaching individuals and teams; Pragmatic commercial outlook and exemplary judgement (balances business value vs. risk) to deliver best outcome for the multi-billion dollar project; Collaborative mindset and advanced interpersonal skills; Proven ability to operate effectively in complex and ambiguous environment; Ability to think laterally resolving issues independently, influencing change, working autonomously with attention to detail in an organized and objective manner; Previous on-site construction experience is a requirement; A high degree of business acumen with deep understanding of multi-billion dollar projects execution, risks and strategies; experience in strategic thinking, robust planning and risk management; Strong communication skills. Ability to tailor communications and interactions to a wide variety of stakeholder groups, including senior level executives.
