About the role
As a Police Officer, no two days will be the same. You will bejoining a team that truly makes a difference to safer communitiesin South Australia. We are seeking recruits with varied lifeexperiences and cultural backgrounds, which reflect the diversityof our community. First Nations people and people with culturallyand linguistically diverse backgrounds are encouraged to apply.
Police Officers deal with the unexpected as they face a varietyof tasks – from interacting with the community to managingdifficult situations. They provide a front line service to thecommunity, detecting and preventing crime, helping to keep SouthAustralia safe for everyone.
As a South Australia Police Officer your dutiescan include:
1. performing foot and mobile patrols to prevent and detect crime, maintaining law and order and assisting members of the community as part of a police service
2. undertaking an active role in traffic policing and road safety campaigns
3. developing links and maintaining contacts in the local community, including organisations, groups and individuals, that contribute to intelligence gathering, problem solving and the prevention of crime or anti-social behaviour
4. conducting enquiries in relation to missing persons, the service of summonses, execution of warrants, reported crime, accidents and other official miscellaneous police enquiries
5. providing assistance to and receiving reports from members of the public, including front counter enquiries
6. maintaining and keeping excellent records in journals, court files, log books and other databases as required by SA Police.

What you will get from SAPOL
After you successfully complete the recruitment process, whichincludes medical, physical and psychometric testing, you’llbe paid to develop the skills and knowledge you will need to becomea South Australian Police Officer.
As a Police Cadet, you will receive nine months of training atthe Police Academy combining academic studies in law, policy andprocedure with practical and physical training. After graduating,you will spend a further 18 months as a Probationary Constable.After successfully completing your probation, you will then havethe opportunity for further training, with more than 40professional specialities - including mounted, water or dogoperations, major crime investigations – no matter where yourinterests lie, you will be sure to find a role that is the rightfit for you.
Police Cadet salaries are $62,135 per annum (or a junior cadet,if you’re under 21 years of age). Probationary Constablesalaries start at $72,488 with 21% shift penalties and allowancesincreasing this up to $87,000 plus superannuation.

To serve as a South Australian Police Officer, you mustbe:
12. an Australian or New Zealand citizen or Australian permanent resident
13. 18 years or older at the time of application
14. able to meet medical, fitness and psychometric requirements
15. able to complete operational training and be willing to carry and use personal defence equipment, including a firearm.
Salary:
Police Cadet: $62,135
Probationary Constable $72,488
While training, you will be a Police Cadet, earning $62,135 perannum (or a junior cadet if you’re under 21 years of age)while you learn the skills you need to be a Police Officer. Ongraduation, you will be a Probationary Constable earning $72,488per annum with 21% penalties and allowances increasing this up to$87,000 plus superannuation.
