About the opportunity
In this newly created role we are looking for a Senior Competition and Consumer lawyer to join Woolworths Legal Industry & Government team. You will be an independent, highly-motivated and confident specialist who is able to manage a range of competition and consumer law advisory matters in a fast paced business environment.
Reporting to the General Counsel - Australian Food & Competition, you will be responsible for providing strategic, efficient, cost effective and results focused competition and consumer legal services across the operations of the Woolworths Group ecosystem.
This is an outstanding opportunity to use your commercial acumen, interpersonal and legal skills by providing strategic and risk balanced legal advice across a diverse range of businesses.
What you’ll do
* Advising and representing Woolworths Group businesses in relation to all aspects of competition and consumer law including merger clearances, information management, regulatory investigations, contractual matters, pricing, marketing, and regulatory disputes;
* Demonstrating ‘best in class’ corporate counsel thinking and identifying continuous improvement opportunities for yourself, the Legal team and the Business;
* Delivering strategic, user-friendly advice promptly while fostering strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders to support business objectives;
* Partnering with external counsel ensuring that the organisation is effectively advised and represented in a cost effective way;
* Ensuring key stakeholders are informed on the impact of legislation and regulatory requirements which may affect the organisation;
* Working with the General Counsel to liaise with regulators on matters which affect the organisation’s present and future activities;
* Working to ensure compliance with all relevant legal and regulatory requirements within the Board Risk Appetite;
* Helping to build the capabilities of the team including supervising junior lawyers.
What you’ll bring
* Bachelor of Laws and 5+ years PQE competition & regulatory (preferably gained with a reputable law firm and/or at a relevant in-house role);
* Demonstrated working expertise in the application of the Competition and Consumer Act 2010 including in relation to Part IV of the Act and the Australian Consumer Law;
* Experience in, or interfacing with, the ACCC and/or state and international competition & consumer law regulators;
* An ability to prioritise competing demands and business expectations, and to manage a large volume of diverse files and the delivery of external legal services;
* Superior communication, negotiation and influencing skills with the ability to deal confidently with stakeholders at all levels.
