Permanent / Full TimeApplications Close: Wednesday, 20 November, 2024The RoleCommencing January 2025Full Time, Ongoing position available with 4 weeks leave per annumAs the MLC Marshmead Sustainable Farm and Land Manager, you will play a critical role in the day-to-day operations of our Marshmead farmland. You will work closely with the Marshmead leadership team to develop and implement sustainable farming practices, regenerative agriculture, and conservation efforts. In addition, you will help facilitate learning opportunities for our students, assisting with classes and contributing to the curriculum.Primary Duties and Responsibilities:Strategic Land Management: Review and implement a multi-year sustainable land management plan, introducing regenerative farming practices, horticulture, and Indigenous land management strategies.Farm Infrastructure & Machinery Maintenance: Oversee the upkeep of agricultural precincts, irrigation systems, livestock fencing, and manage farm equipment such as tractors, mulchers, and hay-making machinery.Livestock Management: Manage livestock to ensure humane care, adequate feed, water, and pasture management, as well as coordination with MLC’s food services.Curriculum Support: Collaborate with teachers to integrate farm operations into the student curriculum and provide real-life learning experiences related to sustainable farming and land conservation.Land and Resource Management: Oversee activities such as noxious weed control, feral animal management, and firewood acquisition.About YouTo thrive in this role, you will possess:Extensive experience in farm and land management, with knowledge of sustainable agricultural practices.Strong technical knowledge of horticulture, agriculture, and resource management.Excellent organisational skills and the ability to develop and implement strategic plans.Proven experience in working collaboratively with diverse teams, including government agencies and indigenous communities.A commitment to conservation principles and an understanding of culturally aware land management practices.You will also hold (or be willing to obtain):A current Victorian Driver’s Licence (4WD experience is beneficial).Category two firearm license (desirable).Working with Children Check.The SchoolMLC is a leading independent girls' day and boarding school located in the inner east of Melbourne.
