Casual Junior Solicitor (freelance contractor or employee)
Apollo Law Pty Ltd Sydney, New South Wales, Australia
If you were admitted as a lawyer but never practised; or seek casual legal work that is flexible around your life commitments, this job post was written for you.
About Apollo.Law
Apollo.Law was founded in 2020 as a sole practice operated by John 'JXP' Plumidis in CBR. Last year the practice pivoted into B2B litigation services, winning work in NSW, ACT and Victoria. Through 2025 Apollo.Law is expanding its service lines for individuals, small businesses, and families.
The role and its prerequisites.
The primary aspects of the role are:
1. The capacity to undertake business development for Apollo.Law in Sydney;
2. Under the supervision of firm principal John 'JXP' Plumidis, undertake routine legal work for a range of individual and small business clients;
3. Work collaboratively with other subcontracted lawyers and Counsel, and direct a small army of eager paralegals.
Prerequisites for this role are that you:
1. Are admitted to practice law in Australia and are capable of holding a practising certificate (0 to 5 years PQE);
2. Have or are capable of obtaining a "Working With Vulnerable People" check;
3. Are comfortable utilising cloud technology for your work;
4. Reside in Sydney and, when client needs or court attendance requires, are willing to travel to any part of Sydney;
5. Have a sunnier disposition than law firm owner JXP.
The successful candidate(s) will be chosen based on predicted fit with Apollo.Law’s existing people networks and future business development. Your CV and academic record will also inform how the role is further shaped to you.
This is not a full time or permanent role
It is anticipated that the successful candidate will concurrently have a non-legal career (e.g. small or family business) or seeks casual income as part of a lifestyle decision.
You will be paid as either a casual employee or as a contractor, for an initial term of 6 to 12 months. Remuneration will be a modest salary rate, plus a generous commission and bonus scheme. Further engagement will be based on workflow and the successful candidate(s) preferences for their next 3 years work.
10 to 30 hours work per month is anticipated, though the workflow is not steady or fully predictable. Your hours of work will depend on when client meetings can be scheduled and whether it is necessary to attend court. Subject to those constraints, and related deadlines, you may work when, where, and how you wish.
This recruitment process will be slow
Offer(s) will be made to successful candidate(s) during May 2025.
