You could be one of our 2700 committed team members who are up to the challenge.About the roleReporting to the Head of Network Control, the Manager Operational Safeworking is responsible for providing expert supervision, support, and governance across all safeworking practices and interfaces that impact the Operations division.This role requires extensive knowledge of regional rail corridors and diverse signalling systems to provide accurate, timely advice on complex technical safeworking issues, particularly those involving the regional rail network, metropolitan, and freight interfaces.Additionally, the role is accountable for coaching and mentoring regional Signal Control staff to strengthen organisational capability and serve as the primary liaison for all safeworking activities within V/Line's centralised train control function.Key Accountabilities include:Assess the operational impact of projects, major works, and network access requests.Review, interpret, and approve key operational and safety documents, including Safe-working Circulars and Train Operating Notices.Provide expert advice on network changes, infrastructure, signalling, and operational processes.Approve safety plans for planned and unplanned works, ensuring safe access to the network.Act as a key liaison between Train Control and Safeworking teams, ensuring smooth collaboration.Mentor the Regional Signalling team to build capability and meet business needs.Develop and implement strategies to enhance rail safety and operational performance.About youYou are a collaborative leader with deep operational expertise, thriving under pressure and excelling at building team capability. With excellent communication skills, you engage stakeholders seamlessly, foster a positive culture, and navigate complex challenges with confidence to deliver safety-first outcomes.Our ideal candidate will possess the following:10+ Years in the Rail Industry: Proven background across various operational roles, with regional and metropolitan network experience.Proficiency in 1994 Book of Rules & Operating Procedures: Extensive experience applying industry rules to ensure operational safety and compliance.Proficient in Train Control and Signalling Systems: Strong working knowledge of rail signalling and train control operations for safe and efficient service delivery.Experience Managing Disrupted and Routine Operations: Skilled in maintaining performance and safety during both normal and degraded conditions.Safeworking Qualification (Highly Desirable): Formal training in Safeworking practices to lead safety-critical operations.Strong Communication and Stakeholder Engagement: Clear communicator who fosters collaboration, conveying complex information with a focus on safety.Demonstrated alignment to V/Line's values of responsiveness, integrity, impartiality, accountability, respect, leadership and human rights.In addition to free myki travel, we offer:Community impact - Make a genuine difference.
