The Djurali Group is hosted by THE HEART RESEARCH INSTITUTE (HRI), located in Newtown, Sydney, which is a centre of excellence in cardiovascular medical research. HRI’s research aims to understand all aspects of health, including cardiovascular.

The Djurali Group at HRI is looking for a senior researcher in the field of Indigenous health or equivalent.
The successful applicant will be a key supervisor and leader of the Djurali Group. The prime objective of the role is to develop and manage research projects and/or programs to completion, ensuring that it is adequately funded, staffed, and controlled. The Group Leader is responsible for the publication strategy resulting from the project or program. The quality and quantity of publications from the Group’s research activities is a key measure of the productivity and success of the group. The Group Leader reports to the Head of Operations - Djurali and will have Research Assistants and Research Fellows as direct reports. The role is supported and guided by the Cultural Leaders of HRI.
Part-time or full-time will be considered. Workplace location negotiable but Sydney based is preferred.
Who You Are:
* Relevant tertiary qualifications and experience undertaking research in Indigenous health, or a relevant, related field.
* Experience in a team leadership role managing grant budgets and deliverables, research projects, and leading teams.
* Successful track record in grants and publishing.
* Experience working across various levels of universities, government, peak Aboriginal bodies and/or ACCHOs or equivalent.
* Successful record of scientific writing for peer-reviewed journals and/or writing of reports for non-expert stakeholders.
* Demonstrated ability to be culturally safe that is free of racism while undertaking research in collaboration with Aboriginal people and communities.
* Strong skills in data management with excellent attention to detail.
* Experience in conducting literature searches and summarising findings with experience contributing to presentations and academic papers.
* Strong verbal and written communication skills with highly developed interpersonal skills and the ability to work with staff, students, and peers from diverse backgrounds.
* Demonstrated experience in managing competing priorities and diverse project requirements to ensure a high standard of work is delivered on time.
* Experience in analysing qualitative data will be highly regarded.
* Experience leading and/or working with a multidisciplinary team will be highly regarded.
* Knowledge of health and safety responsibilities and commitment to attending relevant health and safety training.
* Current Working With Children Check and National Police Check.
