This position works within a small team environment with the aim of improving the health status of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people through the provision of comprehensive and culturally appropriate primary health care services.
Under the direction of the Maternal Child Health, this position provides client support and administrative assistance for the New Directions team in an effective and efficient manner which fully supports the delivery of high quality, culturally appropriate services and activities.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Accompany and support pregnant women and their families to appointments including but not limited to ultrasounds, Obstetric appointments, CPFS planning meetings.
2. Support MCH Midwives through general administrative assistance and client care as required.
3. Health promotion activities – maintaining education board in MCH waiting room, monthly health promotion activity in court yard.
4. Assist Health promotions team in running the Bega Bubs and bumps yarning session.
5. Transporting of clients if MCH transport officer not available.
6. Responsible for ordering of stock, shopping and preparing items including but not limited to – Incentive bags, balloon, lollipops.
7. Assist as necessary in the general day to day running of MCH area under direction of Midwife.
8. Be available for maternal outreach trips to Northern Goldfields and Norseman on a monthly basis. Requires overnight stay.
9. Womens business trips 3 monthly with midwife and GP/Obstetrician to Northern Goldfields. Requiring 2 nights overnight stay maybe be extended.
10. Ability to enter data.
Essential Requirements:
1. High level oral and written communication skills, including the ability to relate well to staff and to liaise effectively with key stakeholders.
2. Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of cultural factors and social determinants particularly relating to Aboriginal Health.
3. Demonstrated commitment to confidentiality and a high level of accuracy.
4. Well-developed problem-solving skills and the ability to effectively determine priorities to ensure deadlines are met.
5. Work effectively as a member of a team in an environment of competing priorities.
6. WA “C” Class drivers’ licence.
7. A current Working With Children’s Check.
8. National Criminal History Check Certificate (Police Clearance - valid within 3 months).
