About This Opportunity
The University of Queensland’s (UQ) Strategic Plan, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Employment Strategy and Reconciliation Action Plan place priority on increasing the number and representation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people amongst the staff and students at the University. Accordingly, the Faculty of Engineering, Architecture and Information Technology now invites Expressions of Interest from Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander candidates seeking to build an academic career for appointment to teaching and/or research positions within one or more of the Schools, Centres or Institute within the Faculty. This is a full-time (100%), four-year fixed-term position.
The Schools in the Faculty of EAIT include:
* Architecture, Design and Planning
* Chemical Engineering
* Civil Engineering
* Electrical Engineering and Computer Science
* Mechanical and Mining Engineering
The possibility also exists for appointments to one of the Institutes/Centres in the Faculty:
* Sustainable Minerals Institute
* Australian Centre for Water and Environmental Biotechnology
* Gas & Energy Transition Research Centre
UQ’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander (Indigenous) PhD Pathway Program aims to build and develop capability through an individualised program structure specifically designed to begin an academic career. Successful candidates will be matched with organisational units within the Faculty of Engineering, Architecture & IT which will be able to provide career support through training and mentorship in your related field of study, research or discipline.
At UQ, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people are supported to fill their cultural responsibilities, with access to 8 additional days (pro-rata) of paid Cultural Leave annually. Indigenous employees are encouraged to access the UQ Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Staff Network with a variety of significant events held throughout the year.
Pre-Doctoral (PhD Pathway)
The position available is a fixed term contract for 4 years, encompassing a Higher Degree by Research (HDR) salary scholarship partnered with an academic position at Level A, which will allow the candidate to engage in relevant studies while gaining on-the-job academic training and experience.
The key responsibilities as an Academic at UQ are outlined in the Appointment Booklet. Candidates may be offered a Teaching and Research or Research Focused position depending on skills, experience and career trajectory. In both cases, a contribution to teaching as well as research will be required, with this contribution being 20% in the Research Focused position.
About You

We are seeking expressions of interest from Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people who would like to pursue a PhD in a relevant engineering discipline and are able to meet the following criteria:
* Be a full-time enrolled Higher Degree by Research student or demonstrate the ability to meet the entry requirements for Higher Degree by Research at UQ.
* Have experience or ability to teach and design coursework at the undergraduate or postgraduate levels.
* Have experience or ability to liaise with industry, government, and/or community to promote opportunities for collaboration.
