About the role
Burdekin Catholic High School is seeking an experienced and dedicated Sports Program Leader. This position is a Full Time, Permanent teaching role with a fixed term appointment to the Middle Leader position which commences 20 January 2025. While this role will see you working in a Middle Leader capacity, the position will also include a component of classroom teaching as part of your duties.
The role of the Sports Program Middle Leader is to support the mission of the school through leadership of specific academic, cultural, outreach, sporting or other defined programs offered to students and/or the school community. This involves interacting with students, employees and parents in an appropriate manner as well as developing and implementing effective processes and practices in keeping with the values and ethos of the school. The Sports Program Middle Leader will assist the principal and leadership team in the employment and evaluation of teachers and employees within the program. The role may also involve interacting with personnel and organisations outside the school community and developing partnerships that enhance results for students.

Key Accountabilities
The Sports Program Middle Leader is responsible for:
* Leading the sporting program in the school to accomplish the desired outcomes of the program
* Develop and promote the school as an authentic, professional, learning community
* Supervise and develop teachers and teacher aides engaged in the program throughout the school
* Induction of new teachers and teacher aides within the program (or supervision of induction where it is undertaken by another experienced teacher)
* Pastoral care of employees engaged in the program where appropriate.
Accountabilities:
* Keep abreast of developments within the area of responsibility through on-going professional reading and research and providing for the professional learning of employees in line with these developments
* Engage in professional discourse with employees on an individual and departmental basis through regular meetings to maintain best practice standards
* Demonstrate professional activity through membership of professional associations and on-going professional development
* Monitor the holistic development of students through observing their academic, social, spiritual and physical well-being and addressing areas of concern through appropriate interventions e.g.: student protection, external referral agencies
* Promote a broad vision of student welfare that extends beyond behavioural management and demonstrating initiative, perseverance, acceptance of responsibility, effective organisational skills, ability to communicate appropriately and ability to foster cooperation and collegiality
* Contribute to the leadership through active participation in employee and middle leadership meetings
* Communicate departmental decisions, issues and concerns with the principal or his/her delegated person
* Manage financial and material resources within the program including the formulation of budgets and the expenditure of allocated funds
* Regularly communicate with stakeholders about issues of legitimate interest and/or concern
* Research and analyse the operations of similar programs in other schools and sectors to enhance the school’s program, to determine areas of success and areas for improvement and to develop plans to address these.
Mandatory Criteria/Professional Registration/Other
* Appropriate Tertiary qualification with registration or eligibility for registration with Queensland College of Teachers
* Current Driver’s Licence
* Ability to travel from time to time within the Catholic Diocese of Townsville
* Ability to perform the physical requirements of the role in a safe manner.
Desirable Criteria
* HPE qualifications or experience is desirable
