We have a mature digital services platform of contemporary cloud-based infrastructure, technical architecture and scalable and reusable common capabilities, with real-time integration into agency legacy systems. The Department of Government Services (DGS) was established on 1 January 2023 to improve everyone's experience of doing business and interacting with the Victorian government.Service Victoria and DGS are bringing important day-to-day services together in one department to make things easy and seamless for Victorians and businesses. We are doing this by connecting and digitising our systems and platforms across state and local government as well as streamlining our corporate and procurement services. About the role Combine your end-to-end product design skills to problem solve and create compelling, personalised experiences that support and empower all Victorians. Think low/no touch, effortless interactions which follow universally accessible patterns. This is a contract role until end Dec 2025. Key accountabilities 1 Partner with cross-functional iterative product teams, working closely with product managers, product owners, content designers, architects, engineers, researchers and other partners to translate interaction and visual interface experiences into reality within the Service Victoria app. 2 Provide leadership and guidance to our other designers and advise development teams and cross functional peers throughout the delivery process, ensuring our products meet quality benchmarks and are regularly released. 3 Contribute to the development and maintenance of design systems, style guides, and interaction patterns to ensure consistency and coherence across our digital platforms. 4 Participate in user research activities to gain insights into user behaviours, preferences, and pain points, and use this knowledge to inform and validate design decisions through usability testing. 5 Initiate and maintain effective relationships, consulting and negotiating with internal and external stakeholders at peer or senior levels. Relying on formal and informal communication channels to achieve goals and engage stakeholders to help them identify areas and opportunities for improvement. 6 Actively present design decisions for review and buy-in, provide justifications, and incorporate feedback from stakeholders both within and outside the digital team and department. 7 Promote digital inclusion and design for our customers who have accessibility needs. Experience and qualifications Mandatory requirements • A commitment to people, collaboration, cohesion and our friendly, fun, can-do culture. • The ability to be productive and creative in a fast paced, agile and ever-changing environment. • Your toolkit for creating and testing wireframes, UI and interactive prototypes. Must contain the skills you need to solve complex customer experience problems and drive solutions, while providing developers with all they need to bring the product to life. Figma expertise is essential • Extensive experience in human centred design (HCD), either in an agency or client/corporate setting. Qualifications in design, technology, or a related field are advantageous. Formal training in human-centered design, animation, UX, or research is highly desirable. • Excellent communication skills. You're persuasive when discussing design rationales and will stand by your commitment to high-quality product outcomes. • An inquisitive and open mind, growth mindset, and willingness to wear several hats and work with fellow experts. Desirable- Experience designing for motion/animation using Protopie, After Effects or Lottie is a bonus.
