Since its inception in December 2011, GDTC has developed an innovative technology that transforms used tyres into valuable products like carbon, oil, and steel, through an emissions-free process. As the company progresses with its inaugural plant in Warren and plans for further expansion into Queensland and other Australian states, GDTC remains committed to addressing the critical issue of end-of-life tyres and has secured significant funding to drive growth. The company’s rapid growth and expansion plans have enabled GDTC to actively engage in discussions with end users and technology operators to maximise returns from their products, including oil and carbon. The focus remains on the completion of the Warren plant by June 2025, alongside preparations for the construction of additional facilities. GDTC is looking to expand its team of experts and is currently seeking a Mechanical Engineer to help lead the design, development, and maintenance of its cutting-edge plant and systems. As a Mechanical Engineer at GDTC, you will play a crucial role in the design and development of mechanical equipment and systems to support the growth of GDTC’s innovative tyre recycling plant. You will work closely with various teams to ensure the smooth operation of plant facilities and help optimise the efficiency of equipment and processes. The ideal candidate will have experience in mechanical engineering with a focus on plant design, systems optimisation, and maintenance in industrial environments. In this role, you will be responsible for evaluating the plant's mechanical equipment, analysing its performance, and identifying areas for improvement. Your responsibilities will span designing, developing, and optimising mechanical systems, ensuring safety standards, and managing projects from conception to execution. You will also be involved in the installation and maintenance of plant equipment and will oversee operational data analysis to maximise efficiency. Qualifications and Experience Requirements: • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field • Minimum 3 years of experience in a mechanical engineering role, preferably in an industrial or plant-based environment • Experience in designing and maintaining mechanical equipment, systems, and plant installations • Familiarity with safety regulations and engineering principles for plant design and operation • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills with a focus on improving operational efficiency • Excellent communication and project management skills Key Responsibilities: • Study functional statements, organisational charts, and project information to determine worker functions and responsibilities, identifying areas for improvement or duplication. • Lead the completion and commissioning of the GDT tyre recycling plant in Warren in accordance with the project plan and in compliance with all company procedures and statutory regulations • Provide comprehensive mechanical design support and develop layout drawings in alignment with contractual obligations and project specifications, ensuring continuity from project initiation to completion • Oversee the daily operations of mechanical systems and equipment to ensure optimal performance and identify areas requiring improvement. • Implement and supervise preventative maintenance schedules for machinery and systems to minimise downtime. • Manage the plant through the transition from commissioning to operational status • Analyse workforce utilisation, production schedules, and costs to determine optimum equipment and worker efficiencies. • Develop detailed specifications for the manufacturing of mechanical equipment and systems, including material selection, equipment layout, and piping requirements. • Establish standards and policies for the installation, modification, quality control, testing, inspection, and maintenance of mechanical systems according to engineering principles and safety regulations. • Conduct regular inspections of plant equipment to ensure optimal performance and troubleshoot issues as required. • Oversee and support the commissioning of new equipment, ensuring compliance with engineering and safety standards. • Analyse operational data, including equipment efficiency, material flows, and production metrics, to identify bottlenecks and recommend solutions. • Collaborate with other engineering teams to optimise plant layout and system efficiency. • Analyse operational data and production schedules to identify inefficiencies and develop improvement strategies. • Provide technical guidance and training to operational staff on the proper use and maintenance of mechanical systems and equipment. • Perform regular testing and calibration of machinery to ensure accurate and reliable operation. • Lead mechanical operations during emergencies, ensuring prompt resolution and minimising risks to personnel and equipment.
