About the Position
The Brain Cancer Centre at WEHI is dedicated to advancing the understanding and treatment of brain cancers through cutting-edge research and innovative approaches. Led by Prof. Misty Jenkins, our team is committed to making significant strides in the fight against brain cancer, with a particular focus on the development of novel chimeric antigen receptor T cell therapies.
We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Research Assistant to join our dynamic team. The successful candidate will want to be a career research assistant and will be a key and central member of the lab. This role will lead in administration required to facilitate its function including ordering, database management project management and assisting in the planning and execution of research projects through ensuring reagents are titrated and aliquoted. We are looking for someone who understands the importance of scientific integrity and the maintenance of accurate and detailed laboratory records, as well as ensuring compliance with all safety and ethical standards in the lab. This role will assist the team to carry out the day to day operations of the Jenkins Laboratory and support general research group activities and lead the laboratory training.
There is also scope for the role to contribute to ongoing research projects, including CAR T cell therapy and other novel therapeutic approaches for brain cancer.

Selection Criteria
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in a relevant scientific discipline (e.g., Biology, Biochemistry, Immunology).
Essential Knowledge and Skills:
* Previous laboratory experience in a research setting, including primary cell work (aseptic technique essential) and general cell biology
* Proficiency in molecular and cellular biology techniques (e.g., PCR, flow cytometry, tissue culture).
* Posess strong organisational and time management skills, and excellent attention to detail.
* Excellent aseptic technique and experience with primary human and rodent tissue culture
* Database management
* Flow cytometry expertise
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
* Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
* A passion for research and a commitment to advancing scientific knowledge.
Desirable Knowledge and Skills:
* Experience with CAR T cell research or immunotherapy.
* Animal Handling skills are desirable
* Knowledge of brain cancer biology and related research methodologies.
* PBMC processing and storage of clinical trial samples

Terms of Appointment
This position is 2 years in a full time capacity. Salary is Research Support Employee Level 5 - 6/($79629 - $99979 ). Up to 17% superannuation and very attractive salary packaging options are available.
