About the Role: Sydney Metro West – Western Tunnelling Package (WTP). A consortium between Gamuda Australia and Laing O'Rourke has been awarded a contract to start tunnelling on the Sydney Metro West project. With works well underway, the Commercial Manager will play a crucial role in the management and oversight of commercial aspects across the project. This position demands a strong understanding of contract law, financial management, and risk assessment within the civil engineering sector. Reporting to the Senior Commercial Manager, the successful candidate will be responsible for assisting in maximising project profitability, managing contractual relationships between all stakeholders, and ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory requirements. Duties and Responsibilities: Developing and managing project forecasts, monitoring expenditures, and implementing cost control measures to ensure financial targets are met. Management of contractor disputes. Work closely with the finance team to assist with preparing month-end whole of project forecasts and financial reports. Mentor the junior Commercial Team on industry best practices and encourage staff to develop their current skillset. Implementing effective cost control processes and practices. Assist with the evaluation of variation claims prepared by the commercial team prior to issuing assessments for review and approval under the delegation of authority. Assist with managing compliance and preparing reports on the commercial performance of the project. Working knowledge of common law, state and federal regulations and statutes as it relates to commercial issues. Provide strategic guidance to project teams, fostering a collaborative and legally sound environment. Lead on monitoring and steering outcomes for high-risk/value claims and disputes, ensuring positive strategies and resolutions. About You: Degree in Law, Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Quantity Surveying or Business-related degree. Minimum 5-8 years in a commercial/contract management role working on major scale infrastructure projects. Strong understanding of principles of contract management, experience in contract management and stakeholder engagement with practical experience. Previous major project Joint Venture/consortium experience is desirable. Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel and Word. Well-honed and able to manage competing deadlines.
