Job Purpose
The primary role of Engineering Program Manager is to ensure that the engineering scope of all projects within the portfolio are planned, resourced and implemented to meet the objectives of cost, schedule and quality, and in compliance with UGL policy and quality standards. The position will set technical direction and uphold standards for engineering teams in the engineering component of projects and product development activities within the Manufacturing and Maintenance – Transport sector of UGL. The above is to be achieved through the application of good business operating practices and the provision of sound, professional leadership and management across the engineering portfolio. This role is defined as a Rail Safety Worker.
Responsibilities
1. Leadership and line management of the Project Engineering team.
2. Mentoring and coaching of the project engineering team to enable skillsets to be developed and honed in the project engineering team.
3. Develop and deliver training in the area of project engineering management.
4. Successful delivery of individual projects in accordance with PMBOK principles.
5. Develop standards of project engineering management excellence to be utilised within the Manufacturing and Maintenance – Transport business sector of UGL, ensuring they are aligned with UGL policy and defined industry standards.
6. Establish and enforce uniform application of best practice project engineering management principles, practices and procedures across the Manufacturing and Maintenance – Transport business sector of UGL.
7. Provide day to day project engineering management problem solving, solutions management and performance improvement.
8. Monitor and report the output of project engineering teams to ensure correctness, quality, consistency and on time delivery across the portfolio of projects.
9. Establish knowledge sharing forums and communications across the Manufacturing and Maintenance – Transport business sector of UGL.
10. Provide representation of UGL at technical reviews, arbitration, conferences, etc.
11. Provide technical sales presentations on project engineering management in support of sales and business development opportunities.
Qualifications
1. An appropriate Engineering Degree from an accredited tertiary institution or equivalent.
2. Chartered credential (CPEng) or eligibility to attain through IEAust.
3. Additional relevant specialised training (eg MBA or Post Graduate studies in business management, culture change, project management, engineering management, commercial contracting, advanced negotiating, etc).
4. Eligibility to obtain Rail Safety Worker status.
5. A thorough sound understanding and knowledge of manufacturing/fabrication principles and practices and proven experience of leading operations and projects in multi-discipline mechanical-electrical engineering design environment, preferably in rollingstock.
6. Strong Program Management skills and team leadership experience in shaping business with a track record of delivery on time and budget.
7. Well versed in Design development under an assurance framework including Systems Engineering, Safety Assurance, RAM and Human Factors elements.
