The Senior Environmental Specialist will play a key role in developing and managing Sydney Water’s Environmental Governance framework, ensuring it meets its compliance obligations and environmental objectives. You will also assist in coordinating Environmental Management System audits to maintain ISO 14001 certification, and lead key Environmental initiatives including environmental capability uplift. About the role
The Senior Environmental Specialist will play a key role in developing and managing Sydney Water’s Environmental Governance framework, ensuring it meets its compliance obligations and environmental objectives. You will also assist in coordinating Environmental Management System audits to maintain ISO 14001 certification, and lead key environmental initiatives including environmental capability uplift.
Your duties will include:
* Developing and improving environmental management processes that balance multiple complex issues requiring extensive stakeholder consultation, sensitivity and attention to detail.
* Manage varied stakeholder expectations on managing the impact of Sydney Water’s operations on the environment
* Facilitating implementation of an enterprise approach to improving environmental performance
* Supporting coordination and implementation of EMS internal audit program
* Providing specialised advice on environmental risk
* Monitoring and analysing environmental incidents and ensure appropriate and consistent reporting by the business
* Providing specialised advice to ensure incident management processes and systems are effective to meet environmental requirements.
* Developing and recommending improvements to the Environmental Communication and Training strategies
* Developing, monitoring and assuring compliance with environmental training to meet EMS requirements
* Preparing environmental-related content and key messages to disseminate through Corporate Communications channels
* Preparing annual EMS inputs for the integrated management review
* Providing specialised advice to business areas on environmental compliance and environmental processes
* Environmental reporting including to leadership as required
About you
You will have:
* Relevant tertiary qualifications in Environmental Management, Science, Engineering or relevant discipline or demonstrable equivalent industry experience
* ISO 14001 Lead auditor certification
* 7+ years’ experience working in environmental management for a large, complex organisation
* Superior understanding of ISO14001 management systems, continuous improvement and environmental governance
* Superior understanding of NSW and Commonwealth environmental legislation and related regulation
* Broad-ranging understanding of current environmental and resource management issues
* Demonstrated ability to evaluate and improve the performance of systems and process in relation to meeting business objectives and priorities
* Demonstrated ability to form and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders at a senior level with superior negotiation skills
* High level project management and presentation skills
