We are looking for a dedicated Head of Department (Curriculum) to join our leadership team on a temporary full-time basis, from 22 April 2025 until 12 December 2025, unless otherwise determined.

About Merrimac State School
Merrimac is a coeducational state primary school located on Queensland's Gold Coast between Surfers Paradise and the Hinterland. The school has an enrolment of around 600 students from Prep to Year 6. It is back dropped by a bush setting neighbouring international golf courses. Our school services a wide area with many families passing local schools to attend Merrimac.
The school offers a balanced curriculum with a strong emphasis on literacy, numeracy, science, ICT, sporting and cultural pursuits. Japanese is taught in all year levels from Prep to Year 6.
About the Role
Merrimac is implementing ACv9 English and beginning its familiarisation with ACv9 Mathematics including appropriate pedagogies. The roll out of the PLD program has progressed from the junior school to Years 3-6 this year.
The HOD-C role is critical in driving the development, implementation, and evaluation of the school's curriculum to ensure high-quality teaching and learning outcomes. The successful candidate will work closely with teachers, leadership, and students to enhance instructional practices and support student success.
Key Responsibilities:
* Lead the planning, implementation, and evaluation of the school's curriculum in alignment with Australian Curriculum v9 (English and Mathematics).
* Support teachers in delivering high-quality instruction through professional development, coaching, and mentoring.
* Analyse student achievement data to inform curriculum improvements and targeted interventions.
* Foster a culture of continuous improvement by implementing innovative teaching methodologies and best practices.
* Ensure curriculum inclusivity and differentiation to cater to diverse student learning needs.
* Manage resources effectively to support curriculum delivery and teacher capacity building.
* Lead collegial planning sessions to enhance curriculum delivery and instructional effectiveness.
* Facilitate professional learning opportunities for staff to ensure ongoing professional growth and development.
* Oversee assessment, moderation and reporting processes.
