Thales Australia’s Vehicle and Tactical Systems (VTS) business domain is seeking expression of interest of experienced international trade compliance professionals including those with leadership experience to guide geographically dispersed teams and manage compliance requirements with facilitating import and export activities, including export control regimes, namely Australian and U.S. export control laws.
Reporting to the functions’ Director for Trade Compliance and organizationally to the VTS Operations Director, these roles are key members of VTS Organisation & Thales Australia Trade Compliance network.
Working either from any location, your role purpose is to –
1. Provide crucial guidance and support to the VTS business on global trade matters
2. Serving as a trusted advisor to the VTS business, offering expertise on global trade compliance requirements and assisting in their implementation across various VTS business segments
3. Providing strategic direction and taking ownership of tasks related to the VTS portfolio of projects, guiding and advising on the best course of action
4. Coordinating workload and prioritization for the VTS trade compliance team, ensuring a balance between customer service and adherence to functional requirements
5. Implementing processes and procedures throughout the VTS business segments to uphold compliance with national and international export control regulations and customs obligations
6. Ensuring that projects have obtained the necessary permits and licenses to support both tangible and intangible exports, and managing any changes to these authorizations as needed
7. Monitoring the effectiveness of trade compliance controls and proposing and implementing mitigation strategies in cases of non-compliance
On day one in this role, we'll expect you to bring the following skills, experience and behaviours:
8. Solid experience in international trade compliance and export controls
9. Proficient knowledge and experience with Australian and U.S. export control laws, as well as overall compliance with import and export activities
10. Tertiary qualifications in international commerce, economics, policy, or international relations are highly valued
11. Previous experience in the Defense industry in a trade/export control compliance role is also beneficial
12. Experience in interpreting and implementing government policies
13. Demonstrated leadership of small to medium teams located in different locations.
14. Ability to influence and engage with a wide range of stakeholders, establishing strong working relationships to achieve desired outcomes
15. Strong attention to detail and effective prioritization skills
16. Flexibility in terms of work schedule, hours, and location
17. Holder of, or eligibility to obtain a defence security clearance up to NV1
