About the Role
Supporting the Superintendent Process Safety, this role provides Process Safety expertise within BHP Copper SA’s Engineering, Infrastructure and Service Team.
This role can be offered at either Principal or a Senior level, aligned with experience and expertise.
This role will be based in Adelaide with travel to site required.
You will be part of a team that provides technical input to manage the Olympic Dam Major Hazard Facility risk profile and partners with the Copper SA operations to enable improved safety and production outcomes. Your significant expertise in this field will allow you to provide technical guidance and mentorship to developing engineers along with being the senior point of reference for the broader business in this space.
Your competence and ability to work independently will allow you to autonomously deliver on complex problem-solving and provision of solutions.
You will also:
* Support continuous improvement and embedment of a Process Safety facing culture within the operation, from front line to executive level
* Ensure process safety risks are identified, assessed and managed according to BHP standards, procedures and systems
* Provide day-to-day Process Safety support to operations and project teams, including process safety event reviews, Management of Change reviews, participation in risk assessments and Safety in Design activities, and facilitation of risk assessments and HAZOPs
* Facilitate the “Introduction to Risk Assessment and RRRA Process” in-person training courses onsite and in Adelaide
* Support the implementation of the Process Safety Management elements of the Copper SA Integrated Management System, including verification activities and management and improvement of the associated standards, procedures and tools
* Contribute to the Olympic Dam Major Hazard Facility Safety Assessment and Safety Case, including development and technical review of the Process Hazard Analysis bowtie risk assessments
* Support the development and implementation of Process Safety improvement initiatives as part of Olympic Dam’s Process Safety program of works
* Undertake Field Leadership activities, including leading Layered Audits, on a regular basis
* Support the Superintendent through the coordination and delivery of work amongst the team
About You
* Tertiary qualifications in Process or Chemical Engineering (or an aligned discipline)
* Significant operational and/or design engineering experience in the Chemical, Petroleum or Mining industries
* Significant experience working within a Major Hazard Facility, including development and implementation of a Process Safety Management framework, investigation of process safety events, auditing and Regulator engagement
* Significant experience in applying risk management techniques and Process Safety concepts to support Process Safety risk identification, prevention and mitigation, including facilitation of risk assessments
* Significant experience in Process Hazard Analysis studies, Consequence Modelling and/or Functional Safety activities, with experience as a trained HAZOP Leader
* The proven ability to support and develop a small technical team
* Strong analytical skills with experience in analysing a diverse range of information for troubleshooting and problem solving
* Exemplary verbal and written communication skills, with significant experience in engaging and working with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
