We embrace the rich history that comes with working for the Herald whilst operating out of the most modern, advanced newsroom in the country.Job Description12-month parental leave contract opportunity The Sydney Morning Herald Sports Reporter role will be a key position, combining breaking news, analysis and feature-writing capability at the highest-level.The successful candidate will be an experienced journalist, with a good range of contacts and the ability to write with confidence across a number of sports.
Day to day you will:Deliver unique, high-quality coverage for the daily and weekly news cycleAttend live matches, press conferences and events as requiredReact quickly to breaking news stories, including under deadline pressureDemonstrate excellent news judgement and knowledge of issues in the round and in the wider communityEnsure all copy meets legal requirements, and the highest standard of accuracy, ethics and editorial qualityQualificationsWhat we would like to see on your resume:Demonstrated journalist experience (sport writing is highly regarded)Genuine interest and knowledge in writing about sportAn understanding of different ways of engaging our audiences, particularly in digitalAn abundance of ideas, energy and the ability to work well as part of a teamExcellent writing skills.Additional InformationOur Commitment to Diversity and Inclusion:We're committed to a safe, respectful and inclusive Nine.
