Job Description
The Associate Medical Director - Oncology is responsible for providing clinical expertise and Medical Affairs strategic leadership in the development and commercialisation of Haematology/Oncology products and therapies.
The role collaborates with cross-functional teams, including research and development, regulatory affairs, pharmacovigilance, market access and marketing, to ensure the successful progression of clinical trials and product launches. The Associate Medical Director supports the design and execution of trials, both Abbvie sponsored, and Investigator Initiated with the aim to further clinical knowledge and support access. The position also requires engagement with key opinion leaders and healthcare professionals to enhance the therapeutic area’s knowledge base and represent the organisation at scientific conferences and advisory boards.
KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
* Develop annual medical affairs plans for assigned portfolios within Hematology/Oncology.
* Drive In-field Team Medical Excellence capabilities and operational objectives.
* Optimise implementation and delivery of research in collaboration with the SM+M team.
* Manage the assigned budget within financial guidelines.
* Ensure compliance with company policies, procedures, and statutory requirements.
* Contribute to compliance committees and fulfill ISO and Class A requirements.
* Foster a patient-focused, customer-centric approach and build relationships with external experts.
* Provide technical and scientific support to cross-functional teams and stakeholders.
* Drive affiliate research studies and advise on investigator-initiated study proposals.
* Collaborate with the Medical Leadership Team to set the team culture and inspire the medical team.
* Support the ANZ Medical Director in strategic initiatives and organizational development through training.
* Represent the medical department on internal committees and delegate for the Medical Director as needed.
* Build and manage the Hematology/Oncology medical affairs team, establishing responsibilities and goals.
* Support personal and professional development of the team through individualised plans and career planning.
* Ensure team attendance at GMA training sessions and act as a liaison with global medical personnel
* Ensure effective liaison for study proposals and support GMA strategies.
* Act as a delegate for the Medical Director for approvals of promotional and non-promotional materials.
* Assist in organising departmental meetings and build feedback mechanisms.
* Adhere to company health, safety, and environmental policies to minimize risk exposures.
* Lead and manage other functions as requested by the Medical Director.
* Report any adverse event within 24 hours as per AbbVie’s policies and procedures.
* Proactively participate in AbbVie’s WHS programs, adhere to policies and promote a safe work environment at all times.
* Adhere to AbbVie’s internal codes of conduct and compliance processes.
* Other ad hoc duties such as administrative duties, as requested.
Qualifications
* Medical degree or PhD in a relevant science discipline. Whilst these
qualifications
are ideal, exceptional candidates with other
qualifications
will also be considered.
* Strong knowledge and experience within Haematology/Oncology area
* Significant pharmaceutical industry medical affairs experience
* Clinical research experience or knowledge highly valued
* Significant people management experience in a cross-functional team environment
* Exceptional communication skills with the ability to interact at senior executive level
* Highly developed strategic thinking, problem solving, multi-tasking and prioritisation skills
* Budget planning and management skills
