Zerella Fresh is one of Australia's largest grower and packers of Carrots, Onions and Potatoes supplying Australia's leading supermarket chains plus independents and exports. We are currently seeking an experienced and motivated HORTICULTURE FARM MANAGER to join our team on a full-time permanent basis, responsible for farm operations at our Virginia site in South Australia. As a valuable member of our team, you will play a vital role in the success of our Potato, Carrot and Onion operation. Reporting directly to the Farm Operations Manager you will be working collectively as part of a team assisting across a range of horticultural operations. We are seeking candidates to be based at our Virginia site, north of Adelaide. Duties include: Ensure that the Virginia farm site achieves annual budget through the supply of quality produce, without incident and in the most efficient manner. Oversee and manage the cultivation, growing and maintenance of crops, including all associated production processes. Define, implement, and monitor production strategies, policies, and plans for the applicable farm department. Ensure the operational program is developed in conjunction with relevant farm and operational departments, and outcomes are achieved in full and on time. Plan details of production activities in terms of output quality and quantity, cost, time available and labour requirements. Oversee contract management and share farming opportunities, seed production, purchase, and inventory management. Oversee all aspects of department management including irrigation, fertiliser and spray management, crop monitoring, harvest management, calibration of equipment and Integrated Pest Management (IPM). Control the operation of production plant and quality procedures through planning of maintenance, designation of operating hours and supply of parts and tools. Monitor production output and costs, adjusting processes and resources to minimise costs. Ensure key stakeholders and department managers receive required information in a timely and efficient manner. Oversee the acquisition and installation of new plant and equipment. Direct research into production methods, recommending and implementing initiatives as required. Oversee the development of records and reports, ensuring data integrity is maintained. Manage employee activities and monitor performance, ensuring all employees receive the training required to undertake their role safely and effectively. Conduct research and evaluate new techniques and varieties of produce. Participate in Pye Group networking to achieve business objectives and ensure continuous improvement. All other requirements as directed to achieve business objectives. Requirements: Certificate III or IV level qualification in agriculture or relevant field plus at least 2 years of relevant experience OR at least 3-5 years of relevant work experience. Experience in a horticultural operations / farm management. Experience in the management of potato, carrot, and onion crops (desirable). Basic mechanical knowledge and experience working with large scale agricultural machinery. Unrestricted Class C Drivers Licence (essential). Chemical User Certificate Accreditation (essential). Forklift license (essential). HC license (essential). Cultural adaptability and a willingness to work with a diverse range of stakeholders. Ability and willingness to undertake manual, and sometimes physical work. Ability and willingness to work outdoors, in all kinds of weather conditions.
