ABOUT THE ROLE
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Alcohol and Other Drugs (AOD) Counsellor to join our team. This role is designed for someone passionate about delivering evidence-based counselling and care coordination to individuals needing AOD support. You’ll provide resources, harm minimisation education, and essential skills to help individuals in our community strengthen their resilience and improve their coping mechanisms.
Working from a social model of health, you’ll collaborate closely with other agencies to ensure our services are responsive and tailored to the needs of both individuals and their families.
Key Responsibilities:
Deliver professional and confidential counselling to clients experiencing problematic alcohol and/or drug use.
Conduct AOD comprehensive assessments and provide client-centred support across various stages of recovery.
Equip clients with resources and education on harm minimisation and coping strategies.
Employ a flexible, trauma-informed, strength-based approach to counselling.
Utilize a diverse range of therapeutic models and techniques, including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and more.
Work with both general and forensic AOD clients, addressing a range of needs from brief interventions to complex counselling cases.
ABOUT YOU
We’re searching for a candidate with a background in counselling, behavioural or social sciences, social work, or psychology, preferably with specific training or experience in the AOD field. You will bring a collaborative, client-centred approach and a strong ability to work effectively with other agencies to deliver quality services.
Must have experience in assessment, a variety of counselling and support approaches and have or be willing to obtain forensic AOD accreditation (as required by DFFH).
REMUNERATION
Community Health Centre (Stand Alone Services) Social and Community Service Employees Multi Enterprise Agreement 2022
Classification Level 4 or 5 dependent on experience.
