About the OPPORTUNITY We have an exciting opportunity for a System Safety Engineer to join our program based at Garden Island in Sydney, reporting to the Safety Engineering Manager. We embrace flexible work arrangements at BAE Systems Australia, such as working a 9-day fortnight and hybrid working. As a System Safety Engineer, you will take the lead in managing safety programs for the Hobart Class Guided Missile Destroyer (HC-DDG). You will be responsible for ensuring these critical programs meet legal, corporate governance and customer specific requirements. Key responsibilities include: Develop and maintain system safety plans and instructions applicable to the HC-DDG Safety Management System. Support and Coordinate system safety activities within DDG Capability Lifecycle Manager, including safety and environmental analysis, as well as technical reviews of system safety artefacts to support capability enhancements. Maintain the DDG Safety Case, Environmental Case, Class Hazard Log, and supporting documentation. Prepare internal and external reports to support project reviews and System Safety Working Groups Conduct system safety briefings and provide training (as required) for Destroyer Enterprise personnel. Maintain current knowledge of good practice in safety engineering within BAE Systems, Australia, defence and industry. Generate safety lessons learned communications for hazards, incidents and near misses to be shared across the Destroyer Enterprise and business. About YOU Bachelors in Engineering. Proven experience working in a System Safety Engineering role. Familiarity with the use of hazard identification and analysis tools, such as Fault Tree Analysis (FTA) and Failure Mode Effects and Criticality Analysis (FMECA), or similar analysis tools. Understanding and working experience across the phases of the systems engineering development lifecycle. Demonstrated ability to contribute and work in a cross-function team while ensuring specific responsibilities are achieved.
