News Reporter
Outstanding opportunity for a News Reporter to join Australia's largest media organisation.
Work for News Corp's breaking Newswire service providing valuable content for all mastheads, news.com.au and the Australian as well as external clients.
This role will work within our existing team to cover political news out of Canberra.
This is a full time, permanent position based out of News Corp office in Parliament House.
Key Responsibilities
* Pitch and generate original news stories and ideas
* Break political news stories
* Maintain an accurate and up to date calendar
* File engaging copy to strict deadlines
* Develop and maintain good relationships with key political players
* Liaise with CoS (Politics) on daily coverage, planning and key events
* Respond to breaking news events outside of rostered hours when required
About You
* At least two years of journalism/newsroom experience, preferably in political reporting
* Ability to cut through spin and get to the heart of issues in an engaging way for readers
* Previous experience covering breaking news
* Excellent time management skills
* Capable of multitasking and working under strict deadlines
* Team player with strong communication skills
* Keen attention to detail
* Able to simplify complex topics for a broad audience
* Flexibility around working day and hours
