About the Role
At Risk Youth Accommodation (ARYA) is a service in Belmont that provides overnight crisis accommodation for young people, with culturally diverse backgrounds, aged 14-17 years old who are at risk of homelessness. The purpose of the service is to provide a safe environment for the young person when their placement has broken down or they are in transitional care.
We are looking for Youth Workers who have demonstrated experience working with at-risk young people who may display behaviours of concern including aggression, self-harm, and alcohol and drug use. The purpose of the Youth Worker role is to provide a safe and caring environment, assist the young person to de-escalate and regulate their emotions and, when required, help to develop independent living skills while in the care of the service.
The service is open overnight from 5pm until 10am the following day. Shifts include:
* 07:00am - 11:00am
* 16:00pm - 22:30pm
* 22:00pm - 07:30am (awake shift required)
Responsibilities:
* Establish a rapport and collaborate effectively with young people to achieve positive outcomes
* Manage behavioural escalations and assist the young person to co-regulate emotionally
* Communicate with the care team and report incidents promptly and accurately
* Domestic duties including cooking, assisting with laundry, cleaning, and prepping service for evening intake
* Maintenance of progress notes and record keeping
Skills & Experience:
* Experience working with young people who have experienced significant trauma and neglect, including the management of behaviours of concern
* Ability to demonstrate highly effective interpersonal skills with young people and stakeholders
* Demonstrate confidentiality and have a strong understanding of professional boundaries
* Experience working with young people from indigenous or other cultural backgrounds
* Certificate in Youth Work, Mental Health, or relevant qualification (or willing to work towards qualifications)
* A current First Aid Certificate (must have obtained prior to commencing employment)
* Desirable: Experience with behavioural management approaches including Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI), positive behaviour support, trauma and attachment, Sanctuary or CARE residential models
Successful candidates will be required to clear probity checks including National Criminal History Record Check, Department of Child Protection DCP395, and Working with Children Check.
